The city advances when public life becomes the subject.
The City Kept Us imagines New York after the city chooses human flourishing as its central infrastructure. The skyline remains recognizable, but it no longer dominates the future.
All five boroughs are connected through reliable transit, clean ferries, accessible stations, resilient shorelines, restored bridges, neighborhood microgrids, affordable housing, libraries, clinics, schools, public markets, art, local manufacturing, and streets built for human time.
Technology is present but quiet. It serves public life rather than replacing it.
Work description
THE CITY KEPT US imagines New York in 2030 and beyond after its public systems begin working together. Frequent accessible transit, restored bridges, affordable mixed-income housing, resilient waterfronts, clean energy, libraries, clinics, schools, neighborhood businesses, public markets, art, and local manufacturing connect all five boroughs.
The skyline is deliberately placed in the distance. Children, elders, workers, artists, vendors, families, and disabled New Yorkers occupy the foreground because the city's future is measured by who can live fully inside it. The work asks New Yorkers to imagine progress not as leaving people behind, but as building a city they can afford, inherit, and keep.
